I’m a huge podcast fan and have about 5-6 shows saved at any given time, though my main shows are the Joe Rogan Experience the Tim Ferriss Show. Back in March I gave up my iPhone and bought a Galaxy S9 Plus and I have to say, I’ve been loving the phone so far, except for one thing — no native podcast app.

The Apple Podcast app, while nowhere near perfect, was familiar and clean looking. When I got to Android I was lost. How would I download and listen to podcasts? What’s a Stitcher?

Dramatic, perhaps, but I’m not a big music guy and I was without a very familiar part of my day.

Alas! Google Podcasts!

Yesterday, Google released Google Podcasts, a standalone podcasts app for Android devices. Personally, I think anything Google touches turns to gold, but I won’t get on that soapbox today.

Here’s how it looks…

Simple, yet effective

Someone once described tequila this way and I’m going to describe the Google Podcasts app the same way. I absolutely love the clean look of the app and the ability to download podcasts to your internal storage/SD drive is top notch. I also love how your saved podcast shows and recommended/top rated shows are all on one page. You also have the ability to add a show directly to your home screen so you can launch right to it whenever you want.

Final word

Podcasts are my go-to for commuting, flights, you name it. The introduction of a podcasting app by Google is a breath of fresh air and now all is right in the world.

Do you listen to podcasts? What are your favorites?
