After yesterday’s crazy Hong Kong Airlines deal was published, multiple news outlets prefaced it by saying “if this deal is honored.” I reached out to Hong Kong Airlines PUBLIC RELATIONS yesterday and asked them if they will honor the deal. They say yes, but I am still not convinced by their wording. Here’s the exchange…

As you might be able to tell, my goal with the follow up was to see if they actually plan on ticketing and confirming these flights. I understand that the airline will honor ticketed and confirmed flights, but whether they will actually do those to things remains to be seen.

He stated in his blog he didn’t purchase the Hong Kong airlines ticket so I guess it didn’t matter to him. 2ndly the answer seems positive . Why his skepticism?

I think the airline figured out what was happening before he contacted them, so no secrets died due to his email.

Thanks but this post doesn’t make much sense. A customer service agent is not going to be able to give a real answer in <24 hours of a fare sale like this. I would expect execs to make a call in the next few weeks.

They may honor it, but a random support rep's answer means little here.

Well, for what it’s worth i just was on live chat with Hong Kong Airlines to make seat assignments, having failed to do so when I booked my early March LAX – PVG trip. Went smooth as silk.

Why would you contact the airline? This was a douche of a move! My ticket was confirmed and ticketed and I was able to call and book seats.

Whats the skepticism about? There was nothing to suggest that they are declining to honor the tickets that were purchased. Very misleading.

I’ve received a “Your flight booking is confirmed, please refer to eTicket Itinerary and receipt. Have a pleasant journey!” Email shortly after booking directly through their website… includes a PDF with IATA Code and 1E PNR. Does that mean the ticket has been issued?

We seem to be ticketed and confirmed-LAX-PVG but forgot to select seats. Live chat puts me in the 80s in the queue. Tried calling but having difficulty understanding the prompts. Any suggestions on seat selection?
