I previously wrote a post, albeit not with the cool graphics, about the taxes and fees you can expect to pay when departing from certain major European countries/cities. This time around, I take a look at what you can expect to pay in municipality taxes and fees when departing from major far east Asia countries/cities.
As you can see, when compared to Europe (where countries like the UK tack on $160), flying from these East Asia destinations is downright cheap.
But this may not be a secret to you.
Municipality Fees vs. Fuel Surcharges
It’s important to note that these fees are exclusive of any airline fuel surcharges (YR/YQ) and are added on by the particular city, country, airport, you name it for whatever reason they choose. Sometimes you’ll fees for airport renovations and sometimes you’ll see extra fees for beefed up security.
You can actually find all of this information yourself pretty easily. Here’s how:
1. First thing you want to do is navigate to the ITA Matrix and input your flight details:
2. Then select your flight from the flight selection screen:
3. Once you select your flight, you’ll be able to find the complete breakdown of the fare, including the taxes charge by both the US and the country you are visiting:
Final Word
And there you have it. ITA Matrix is incredibly useful for looking into the nitty-gritty details of a particular flight. We’ve now covered imposed fees for Europe and Far East Asia. What other regions would you like to see? Happy to help any way I can.
isn’t a $20+ fee still hidden in your ticket to fly out of bkk?
Hey Mike – I didn’t include BKK in this analysis, but I just checked and yes there are fees totaling $23.50 when flying out of BKK. Thanks for reading!
It used to be a pain to pay the 700 bht fee at the airport to depart, now we don’t notice it.
