It’s no secret that last week Apple came out with its most confusing iPhone lineup yet — iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max.
The hell?
Gone are the days of the iPhone 6 and 6S. We’re getting into Super Bowl naming territory now. Oh, well.
There were many features announce — some boring and some exciting. One exciting feature is Dual-SIM capability.
What is this and why is it awesome?
Separate lines
Your traveling overseas and don’t have an unlimited plan in whatever country you’re in — what do you do? A popular option is to pick up a local SIM card and pop it into your phone. But keeping track of your home SIM can be tough (especially given how small they are). Phones with Dual-SIM capability will support — you guessed it — two SIMs. This way you’ll never lose your home SIM and can have both loaded onto your phone at the same time.
Here’s how it works…
If you receive a call on your Chinese local SIM, the phone will switch to the Chinese SIM as the active SIM for that call. If you receive a call on your home number, your phone will switch to that SIM. This way you’ll never miss a call or message — which actually might be a bad thing 😉
Another popular use for Dual-SIM is separating business from personal calls and messages. No more carrying around two phones. Just plug both your personal and business SIM and you’re good to go.
Project Fi
As Charlie at Running With Miles points out, Dual-SIM technology can be perfect for those of you who want to pick up a data-only SIM from Google’s Project Fi for your international travels. All you have to do is plug your Fi SIM card into your phone and you’re good to go when you travel.
Final Word
I bought a Galaxy S9 Plus back in March and I love it. But if there’s one thing you should know about me it’s that I flip-flop technology VERY often. Android to iPhone to Android to iPhone. I’ve long made excuses for it — “I love my Galaxy, but this one app is slow and I use it all the time” — but I’ve just started to embrace the fact that I love technology and always want to play with the latest and greatest gadgets.
As such, I pre-ordered the iPhone XS in Gold 🙂
Will you be getting a new iPhone?
My clone phone ( from china) has had dual sim holders, mem card swap and removable battery . these have been on the marked for years, apple finally getting close to what people really want?
Mike I don’t know man. I don’t think apple will ever give us what we want
Wow dual sim. Laughing my arse off 😉
Apple finally catching up to tech that’s been there for Android in the last 10 years. Let’s see…. removable battery may be coming in the next model as another Apple’s breakthrough technology….
