Hertz Gold Plus Rewards are the loyalty points that you don’t know you need until you need them. With everyone’s focus so rightfully pointed at air and hotel points, rental car rewards are near last in line.

If you find that you have a stash of Hertz Gold Plus Rewards (GPRs) that you aren’t going to use, Hertz will let you exchange them for airline/hotel/rail points. The only option I see where you can potentially make out some value is by transferring to Southwest at a 1:2 rate.

To perform the transfer, follow these steps:

    • Log into your Gold Plus Rewards Account
    • Click on “My Account” in the top corner of the page.
    • Select “Use My Points”
    • Click on “Exchange My Points”

My Initial Thoughts

Overall, this is a horrible offer. None of these redemption options are worth your while unless you absolutely have no need for your Hertz points. Even if you don’t, rental cars can be pricier than you think so it’s probably better off hanging on to your GPRs in the event you find yourself wishing you had them later on down the line.

It’s also important to keep in mind that you can only transfer in increments of 600 points.

Wish I had better news for you, but hey, it’s a holiday weekend so we can all be thankful for that 😉
