Google One is Google’s new paid storage service that took the place of the Google Drive storage plan. All pre-existing Google Drive payment plan customers will be switched to Google One and new customers should visit the Google One website to sign up.

The cheapest Google One plan starts at $1.99/month and gets you 100GB of Google storage for your photos and documents.

But you’re probably asking yourself, what does cloud storage have to do with hotel deals?

Well, as a benefit of Google One subscriptions, Google offers “exclusive” hotel deals via the Google One app.

Now, whenever somebody tells me “exclusive” anything, my BS meter automatically shoots through the roof. As is often the case, these exclusive deals are not really exclusive at all…

So I figured I would test it out with Google and I have to say — the deal really does seem to be exclusive.

The Test

Once you’re signed up with Google One, download the ‘Google One’ app and log in (this also works on the desktop website, too). Once you’re in, scroll to the bottom of the app where it says Search Hotels. When you search for a hotel you’ll see a Google One rate for select properties…

In the above picture, you can see the Google One member price of $154/night for the LA Grand Hotel. In order to compare pricing, I signed out of Google and opened up a new Google Maps page to search the same dates and same hotel…

Here you can see the same hotel is $178/night on the regular Google search. If my math serves me correctly, the Google One rate is 14% cheaper than the cheapest advertised rate.

Not too shabby.

What’s the catch?

There really isn’t a catch with this, though only some hotels participate in the Google One program so if you have your eye on a special property, it may not be available.

Have you used Google One to book a hotel? What’s the best deal you saw?

Can you compare the same price but on Hotelscombined or Trivago – is it still 14% better? From what I see it’s mostly gimmicky and not providing great deals.
